As part of the small cells planning team, you will support planning activities of small cells nationally, including network analysis to identify demand pre-rollout and performance evaluation post rollout. The role requires working independently via use of various planning software/tools and analysis of large network data sets to identify network capacity needs and provide clear recommendations on building a more effective small cells network. There will also be the involvement in site planning and design as part of small cells acquisition & design (A&D) activities.
Key responsibilities & accountabilities
- Deep analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to network capacity and coverage to identify drivers and scenarios for small cells rollout
- Use of various planning tools and GIS software to help develop small cells rollout strategy and plans
- Analysis of relevant KPIs to track performance of deployed small cells and be able to provide sensible recommendations against low-performance sites
- Able to delve into low-level details of small cells plan and identify any scope of improvements
- As and when required, support small cells A&D activities across the country, such as multi-skilled visits (MSVs) with various stakeholders (build partners, suppliers, etc.)
- Communicating clearly and succinctly outputs and findings of analyses to wider radio planning stakeholders
- Support the small cells planning team to deliver their wider remit
Essential skills, knowledge, or experience
(Inc. professional or technical qualifications)
- A high degree of technical understanding of radio access network and outdoor small cells including their various deployment models and performance fundamentals
- Sound knowledge of mobile network radio planning and proficient in various tools used in the planning process (Atoll, MapInfo, Nokia and Ericsson tools)
- Understanding of mobile network acquisition, design and build processes is highly desirable, especially related to outdoor small cells
- Experience of working with complex and very large volumes of data, mobile network parameters and counters
- Ability and willingness to learn, test and trial out various software tools related to network planning and performance evaluation
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, and to prioritise workload / tasks against fluid deadlines
- Flexible to travel throughout the UK for meeting and multi-skilled visits
Key stakeholder interfaces
(Excluding organisation structure roles)
Internal:
- Mobile Network Planning Team
- Regional delivery teams
- Operational teams – including radio, transmission and core
External
Various stakeholders on small cells supply side, including build partners, transmission suppliers, radio vendors and local area authorities.
